Project Title: Zodiac is an automated system to be used by wholesale power market operators of Russian Federation.

Client’s Name (Country): VKS – Vladimir Energy Supply Company (Russia)

The Challenge: VKS is one of the biggest power supply companies in the Vladimir Region.

Due to its status of a wholesale power market operator, VKS not only needs to constantly collect and store raw data using its Automatic Meter Reading System (AMR-System), but also it requires a special wholesale market-oriented software tool to:

• process raw data converting it into a user-friendly format;
• check data for completeness and reliability;
• restore lost data;
• prepare reports and special documents required for financial arrangements with partners.

The Solution: Inreco LAN has developed a Zodiac software system intended to automate procedures of processing and preparing data for wholesale power market. Zodiac is integrated with the AMR-System utilized by VKS.

Zodiac provides the following functionality:

1. Working with large amounts of information gathered from electricity power meters and presented user-friendly as charts and plots.
2. Reconstruction of missing or lost data by the means of special algorithms.
3. Sending e-mails to a market operator in manual and automatic modes.
4. Calculating power interchanges and power losses (user-adjustable algorithms).
5. Generating reports required to work at the Russian wholesale power market.

Zodiac has been placed in commercial operation late in the summer of 2009, and it is used now as a backend system supporting VKS’ operations at the Russian wholesale power market.
